St John of God Community Homes has some exciting opportunities for Level 4 Support Workers. We require additional carers for the Night shifts.  The hours available are negotiable and can be filled either by x1 fulltime position and a part time position OR x2 part-time positions. Our two Community Homes - one in Rolleston and the other in Addington, support residents under the age of 65 who are living with physical and/or neurological disability. Your role is to sustain the welcoming and friendly environment and ensure that the residents feel supported and safe in your care.  Night shifts have a high level of responsibility, and we require all staff to have a minimum of a Level 4 healthcare qualification together with a current First Aid Certificate and medication competency.

About the Role

In this role you will be:

  • Supporting and caring for residents to feel secure and safe at night so that they can lead engaging and fulfilling lives within a home like environment.
  • Follow care plans that enable residents in their health and wellbeing.
  • Managing and administering medications.
  • Monitoring level of wellbeing and ensuring that any concerns/incidents or accidents are reported and documented accurately.
  • You may be called upon to assist in meal preparation, cooking, and any house related tasks.
  • Continue to achieve NZQA Health and Wellbeing Certificate levels and attend in-service programmes with the support of your manager and Workforce Development team.

About You

The ideal person for our team is interested in supporting people and has good communication skills. Other skills and experience that are highly preferred are:

  • Caregiving experience (3+ years preferable).
  • Existing Work Visa with 2 New Zealand work referees.
  • Current First Aid Qualification.
  • Be medication competent.
  • ICT skills to use software including One Chart and eCase.
  • New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4
  • Experience supporting people living with conditions like Huntington's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, and people living with brain injuries will be an advantage.
  • Have a full clean driver's license.
